Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 July 2026
Sleep Grade ("we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, why, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language because a policy you can't understand isn't really transparency.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by Sleep Grade. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact us.
2. What we collect
We collect only what we need:
Information you give us. When you contact us, request an assessment, subscribe to our journal, or fill out a form, we collect details such as your name, email, company, role, and anything you include in your message.
Property information. When a hotel enquires about or engages our services, we collect the business and property details needed to respond and, where applicable, to assess the property.
Publicly available information. To generate baseline property scores, we process information that is publicly available online, including published property details and guest reviews (see Section 6).
Usage and device data. Like most websites, we automatically collect limited technical data — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and similar — through cookies and analytics (see Section 7).
3. Why we use your information
We use information to respond to your enquiries; provide and improve our assessments and services; deliver the journal or other communications you've requested; operate, secure, and improve our website; generate and maintain property scores; and meet our legal obligations.
4. When we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in limited circumstances: with service providers who help us operate the site (hosting, analytics, email delivery) under confidentiality obligations; with professional advisers; where required by law or to protect our rights and safety; and in connection with a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.
5. Aggregated and de-identified data
We may create and use aggregated or de-identified data — for research, benchmarking, and improving our methodology — that does not identify any individual. This is not personal information, is not subject to this policy, and we do not attempt to re-identify it.
6. Publicly available property and review information
To generate baseline (non-certified) property scores, we process information that is publicly available online, which may include published guest reviews and property details. We use this information to assess properties, not to profile, identify, or contact the individuals who wrote reviews. We take reasonable steps to source this information responsibly and to respect the terms of the sources and the rights of the individuals involved.
If you believe your personal information appears in our processing and wish to exercise your rights, contact us and we will respond.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site and understand how it's used — essential cookies necessary for the site to function, and analytics cookies to measure usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings and through our cookie banner, where shown. For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.
8. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law, after which we delete or de-identify it.
9. How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and limit access to those who need it.
10. Your U.S. privacy rights
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights regarding your personal information — for example, residents of California and certain other states may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access, correct, or delete it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" as defined by law. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise any right, contact us; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.
11. Children's privacy
Our services are intended for businesses and adult travelers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Links to other sites
Our website and scores may link to third-party sites, such as booking platforms. We are not responsible for their privacy practices and encourage you to read their policies.
13. A note on our monitoring sensors
Separately from this website, properties that adopt our optional Gold-tier continuous monitoring use environmental sensors that measure room conditions only — such as noise level, light, temperature, and air quality. These sensors contain no cameras or microphones and do not collect audio, images, or any personal information about guests. Full details are provided to properties that use that service.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and for material changes we'll take additional steps to notify you where appropriate.
15. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints: contact us.
